A Caithness Childhood: Generation Surf
Growing up in Caithness can seem pretty dull from the outside but 16 year old Iona McLachlan, from Murkle, near Thurso shows us just how special Caithness life can be from a youngster's point of view. So much so, that the BBC featured Iona on the CBBC channel's 'My Life' series.
Watching the programme triggered memories from my own Caithness childhood: especially jumping in Thurso Harbour, chilling out on bodyboards bobbing along the waves, and camping overnight on our beautiful beaches.
Iona has taken on one of the county's biggest assets - waves - worked her butt off, and owned it! Watch Iona's build up to representing Scotland at the World Junior Surfing Championships and feel the pride.
If you haven't viewed the programme already, you're in luck as there's just a few days airtime remaining on BBC iPlayer. Here's a link.
