On the most northern coast of Scotland lies the county of Caithness. The vast skylines and modest heritage here inspire Lisa Poulsen's digital art, each piece telling its story, from her home to yours.

This print was captured on a summer’s night at Hill of Forss looking out to West Gills and across the North Sea to Dunnet Head.
Once up on the screen, I sampled the colours and outlined shapes from the original photograph creating a total of 64 individual layers. One by one, each layer is contoured and coloured to illustrate the cloud formations, houses, fields, tides, cliffs, lighthouse and bold colours of that summer’s night. This method of digital art is known as vector art and takes days, often weeks to complete.
Once printed, a matte varnish was applied to this canvas making those dusky colours really pop so here’s a quick photo of it before wrapping it up for its long journey to the opposite end of the country.

On a rare day you can enjoy the view from Duncansby Head without the wind forcing you to hold onto a fence for dear life. The day I captured this print was still and calm, you could clearly hear the birds above, even the seals down below and the odd wave lapping the shore. The water mirrored a grey sky giving these famous sea stacks an almost floating appearance.
For the land, I found this slab of Caithness Flagstone on an external wall near our home in Thurso. Its rusty tones portray the rich colours of Old Red Sandstone while its linear form resembles the sheer cliff faces of Duncansby.
